Winter Camping
Winter camping is allowed but we want to make sure that people understand what it means to each other and also the campground with the use during the winter months.
- Power Consumption
o With the use of the campground during winter months, we are having large power bills due to people heating the campers with electric heaters. Starting immediately, Hill n Hollow Campground will have a $15.00/night fee to compensate for the extra utilities costing the campground. This will be on the honor system, any abusers will result in eviction.
o When you are not at camp, we ask that you turn off all heaters. Heaters on when you are not at site (if you are out fishing, this is fine) for a period of time will result in an extra fee and possible eviction.
Basic Information
o Main bathroom is closed and the upstairs washroom is also closed. There are two port-a-poties on site that are available for use.
o Please ride snowmobiles on roads only. Do not drive across peoples lots. This goes for the back easement and the lawn around the camp house also. Use the boat launch for your starting point onto the creek to make your way to your favorite fishing hole.
o It is up to you to take your garbage home during the winter months.
o Please clean all fish out on the lake, fish guts can go back down the hole or however you decide to dispose of them.
o Roads are not always going to be plowed. Use caution when you are out at camp. Take extra care on the hill coming down into the camp, this has a history of being very icy.
Security
o When you are out on site, if you see something suspicious or that might need to be reported, please let us know ASAP. Some camps do have security cameras to help us out.
Fishing Information
Please note that we have a zero tolerance for any fish guts disposed into Strawberry Creek.
No fishing in Strawberry Creek from November 1st to June 16th.
Fishing areas are sporadic, but early spring to mid-summer you can fish just outside of Strawberry Creek in 6’ to 14’ of water. Most common fishing techniques are jigging, casting and trolling.
Fishing spots:
- The Creek Mouth
o 100 yards outside of Strawberry Creek. All along the shore is great spring fishing.
- Driftpile
o This is a straight drive out of the creek (north), as you travel you will see the shore line to your left (watch for deadheads). Follow this until you come to a point and you can see the greater part of Slave Lake to your left (west). Fish this area in 20’-35’ of water.
- North Shore
o This is straight across the lake when you leave Strawberry Creek. This is a long ways across the lake, be sure of the weather before you take this journey.
- Little Miami
o This is northeast of the Spruce Point Park harbor. This is a great shelve, generally catching fish in the 25’ to 35’ of water. Great winter fishing.
- The Narrows
o This is east of Spruce Point. Very dangerous if unaware of the shallow areas.
- Joussard
o This area is great for winter ice fishing.
Bait Sales – See Terry or Cathy with “Up the Creek” for any bait needed. Hooks and advice area always here also!
For any distances travelled on this lake, please be aware of the weather. Slave Lake can make a calm day turn into 5’ waves in a very short time. Please let someone know if you are travelling far from camp. If an emergency does come up, please call 911 immediately.
Remember, boating impaired is illegal.
